First, the weather: An Indian Summer refers to a period of unusually warm and dry weather occurring in autumn, typically after the first frost. It often happens between late September and mid-November in the Northern Hemisphere. The name originated in the U.S. during the 18th century, possibly because the warm spell allowed Native Americans (referred to as “Indians” then) to continue hunting and harvesting.
