Earlier this year, we featured Hyatt Regency Irvine and showcased the property’s $55 million transformation. That transformation propelled this hotel into a powerful position: a perfect example of modern day hospitality, and something that we just know will be a trendsetter for years to come as others follow in their footsteps. To learn more about the overall experience, rooms & suites, amenities and features, check out our initial coverage here or in video format here.

Luxurious and elegant, yet approachable, Hyatt Regency Irvine embraces forward-thinking ideas to solutions, while eliminating much of the noise and friction that travelers and guests have grown accustomed to with most hotel experiences. During our recent follow up visit, we had an opportunity to see the newest additions to the property that were not quite complete during our first tour: the acclaimed Regency Club, pool & cabanas, the pavilion, lawn, Warehouse 72, and outdoor escapes that feel like you’ve stepped out of the urban sprawl and into a pocket of wilderness. Not only are these bonus attractions for celebrations, events, and special occasions, but Hyatt Regency Irvine is giving guests a thrilling reason to come to back with its own seasonal events!
While in a great location not too far from Disney, beaches, and other attractions, the property accomplishes a feeling of “home” and makes it difficult to even think about leaving. We start with some of the food options, as Hyatt Regency Irvine smartly provides 3 main locations within steps of one another for families to decide on meals, and all of them plenty of options. For the a-la-cart-friendly and picky eaters — while also money-saving — The Market is always a great grab-and-go stop that saves on time with its own hot picks and seasonal offerings. The Regency Club has something for everyone, while somewhat of a surprise and ensuring all-day options that never get old. And finally, Warehouse 72 steps things up even further while still a fitting destination for families and adults alike. Read on, and/or watch here for the full rundown of the latest.
Classics Reimagined & Cultural Favorites at Warehouse 72
Walking into Hyatt Regency Irvine, the natural flow of the property encapsulates and carries you, like wind through a tunnel. As you stroll from the lobby and into the distance where Warehouse 72 awaits, the eyes wonder even further, through the patio doors and onto the pool’s giant screen. This seamless and natural flow is unstoppable, but then you snap back. While each breathtaking sight at the property leads to another, Warehouse 72 fits right in with Hyatt Regency Irvine‘s aesthetics and design. The hotel’s third party signature restaurant, welcomes guests within an open, elegant, and lively atmosphere. Borrowing from the hotel’s tech prowess, Warehouse 72 features two of its own stunning LED screens that envelop guests and virtually transport them to a number of stunning artistic destinations on display.
Immediately, we began to see the vision of what Warehouse 72 can accomplish as an attraction beyond their incredible dishes. The screens set the stage for quiet and romantic evenings of bliss, tactful business summit afternoons, and even the thrills of exciting sport nights at the wraparound bar. A transformative space, Warehouse 72 offers reimagined American classics, and boldly delivers on international favorites from its appetizers and entrees to its desserts.
Appetizers we tried include a flavor-bursting Kampachi Crudo featuring Peri Peri sauce, grilled pineapple, soy-citrus emulsion, crispy garlic, smoked sea salt, and the innovative House-Made Fried Mozzarella: Hand-stretched mozzarella, fresh marinara, Parmesan, and micro basil. Guests can’t go wrong with entrees like their melt-in-your-mouth Pork Belly Kimchi Fried Rice: Crispy pork belly, fried rice, kimchi, gochujang, and green onions; or tender and juicy Peruvian Roasted Jidori Chicken: Peruvian marinated Jidori half chicken, spiced crispy marble potatoes, grilled broccolini, aji verde, micro cilantro, and fresh lime.
To put dessert simply, there’s nothing else like Warehouse 72’s Frozen S’mores! Playful, fun, and absolutely delicious, these s’mores are hard to imagine based one their name alone, but the surprise reveal is worth it in the end. Great for kids and adults, it was one of our highlights of the evening. And if you’re a lover of butterscotch, the Butterscotch Budino is a blissful treat made of butterscotch custard, caramel, dark chocolate pearls and chantilly cream. For more kid-like fun with an adult twist, we recommend the seasonal “Fall on Flavor” cocktail, topped with toasted marshmallow puree, or the “Purple Gremlin” for a mocktail that’s full on flavor and more than just a mixed juice.
Well-Rounded Regency Club
Gone are the days of relying on the old continental breakfast to push you through the morning, and here are the days of something much more robust. Regency Club offers a rotating menu of meals and snacks from morning to evening. During our visit, breakfast ranged from scrambled eggs, mindful sausage options, and pancakes, to biscuits, gravy, oatmeal, and a variety of pastries. After breakfast, guests can look forward to a midday snack offering like cookies and trail mix. Dinner features bold and flavorful staples from across the world that the hotel’s guests will know and love.
Finally, dessert is always a plus as Hyatt Regency Irvine treats, guests to tarts, cakes, cookies, and more. The beauty of Regency Club is that it has such a low barrier cost, making it worth it for everyone. In fact, there are promotions for the bunk suites, offering club access for the duration of a stay. The Regency Club was such a hit, that we found the breakfast rush to be quite surprising and almost overwhelming.
They say the early bird gets the worm, but in this case we think the early bird gets peace. The Regency Club was clearly popular on our first morning, with many people coming in – yet plenty of seats left. On day 2, Regency Club was nearly at capacity, with barely any seats available during the height of the breakfast rush — typically the last hour or so before breakfast ends, and everyone is rushing to get their share. We realized that a very large family was the primary reason for the near-shortage of seats, and still the room never felt entirely cramped.
Thankfully, the Regency Club has an outdoor patio with additional seating, making it perfect for those hectic and bustling mornings. Regency Club boasts in assortment of options for the health and diet-conscious, with milk available in a mini refrigerator, soft drinks available in another mini refrigerator, taps for beer, a cocktail menu, and the embrace of technology, featuring a café that can do it all. From hot chocolate and lattes to espressos and hot tea, there’s always a reason to come back to the club and refuel or take a culinary journey.
Resort-Style Pool & Cabanas
Interestingly, the property never feels too massive to navigate. We never felt lost or needed to ask for directions, and in the event that something has been forgotten in the suite, it never feels like a burden to go back for it – even while at the pool. The pool itself is a marvel to look at. It gradually and seamlessly slopes from its shallow end to the deeper end, making it easy to look after children, while also easy to access. The pool is flanked by a jacuzzi and 2 waterslides that lead into a shallow smaller pool, which kids are able to play in outside of the waterslide hours of operation.
In addition, there are plentiful lounge, chairs, and the most spectacular private cabana available for rental. On one hand, there are your standard cabana, though we argue that there is nothing standard about them. And on the other hand, are the premium cabanas, which feature fire pits and extended gated space, making perfect for group events like parties. Cabanas feature a television, dedicated speakers with remotes to control music and tv volume, ceiling fans & light control, curtains for privacy, and incredibly comfortable outdoor furniture that we wish we could take home.
The big star of the pool area is the massive 24-by-17-foot LED screen that is great for evening viewing, but still great and easy to see during the day — a challenge that General Manager Sid Ramani was determined to overcome. He found that many hotels with outdoor screens started family movie times too late in the evening due to the time that the sun sets, while many families are ready to pack up and return to their rooms after a long day. Other nice touches include RFID-equipped towels stored in a dedicated machine where guests simply swipe their room key for access. This system keeps the towels linked to the guests room. And one done using them, the towels simply get dropped off into the nearby dropbox, making it easy for guests to avoid additional charges. In the event that towels are taken to a guests room, they will be notified to return their towel within a certain time window — and their RFID technology makes them findable in the event that housekeeping removes them.
In the future, guests can expect a dedicated outdoor dining area to pick up fresh meals and snacks, with more than enough seating to enjoy a quick recharge without leaving the pool entirely.
Pavilion, Lawn, and Additional Outdoor Areas
The pavilion and lawn add to Hyatt Regency Irvine’s already extensive event space. The property is capable of holding multiple events all at once, and as we learned, it has performed well under pressure as a dedicated concert venue while hosting thousands of guests. Its outdoor pavilion stands tall and elevated, making it a great hideaway from California’s elusive rainy days, while the gorgeous lawn is picture perfect for any occasion. From weddings and concerts, to holidays and sporting events, it’s evident that Hyatt Regency Irvine knows its potential, and more than meets the moment every time.
Warehouse 72’s patio with a view of its LED Screen along the back wall.
The property’s vast expanse of space maintains a running theme from suites to recreational areas: intention. From the outdoor patio of Warehouse 72 to a special “off-trail” section near the pool containing fire pits, seating, and protection from the sun, Hyatt Regency Irvine delivers indoor and outdoor satisfaction. Despite being in the business district of Irvine, this these touches successfully transport guests to feel secluded and away from the restless city. Guests can expect the ability to roast marshmallows and make s’mores, as well as additional functional use during special events.

As we inch toward Halloween, scary events emerge from the shadows. Of note is the Día de los Muertos at Hollywood Forever Cemetery — a truly spectacular event to attend. This year, the guiding theme is the Monarch Butterfly and its winter home, the Mexican state of Michoacán. Michoacán is also one of the two cultural heartlands in Mexico where the ancient traditions of Dia de los Muertos have been celebrated the longest and most vibrantly. It’s a strange feeling to be walking among the dead on the Day of the Dead, but this event truly pays homage.

BMW just dropped their newest beast—the M5—and while the car turned heads, let’s be real, the food stole the show! Casa Mata came through with a menu that had everyone smiling and definitely going back for seconds. Picture this: world-class luxury meets mouth watering Mexican flavors, all in one unforgettable night.
Casa Mata is all about bringing Mexican pride to the table, literally. They create high-end experiences rooted in Mexican heritage, and trust me, they nailed it. From the first bite, you could taste the love and history in every dish. Whether it was the perfectly seasoned tacos or those appetizers that disappeared the second they hit the table, the food wasn’t just good, it was wow. A highlight of the night was the guacamole and taquitos dorados.
They were flying off the table.
The setting? The Motoring Club brought the ambiance. BMW’s new M5 was the star of the night, and Casa Mata made sure the food was just as unforgettable. The vibe was contagious: luxury and classic cars, killer food, and an atmosphere that screamed ‘stay a little longer’.They really know how to throw down when it comes to creating an event that’s equal parts fun and inspiring.
If you’re planning a party, launch, or anything that needs a little extra flair, Casa Mata is highly recommended. They’ll bring the heat (literally and figuratively) and make sure your event is a hit. So next time you’re thinking of how to impress your guests, remember, Casa Mata’s got you covered with world-class eats that’ll have people talking long after the party’s over.

The Artist Tree’s new Cannabis Lounge in Hawthorne just opened up, and let me tell you, this place is it. From the moment I stepped in, it felt like a modern, local version of their West Hollywood spot, but with a vibe that feels more… homegrown. It’s somewhere you’d want to meet friends, hang out, and really enjoy the space.
First off, the service? Top tier. You know when you walk into a place and the staff just makes you feel like a VIP? Yeah, that’s the energy here. You start by checking in at the dispensary, they then walk you through to the lounge. The bar room and seating area was just right; open, welcoming, and comfortable, with great hospitality all around. They even had water service at all times, so you never had to worry about staying hydrated while you enjoy their wide range of cannabis products (seriously, there’s something for everyone here).
The product selection was extensive. Whether you’re into flower, edibles, or something in between, they’ve got you covered. They also have different devices you can rent to enjoy your high! The Stündenglass gravity bong was a highlight for me.
And the drinks? Amazing. The Agua Fresca and To the Moon infused cocktails were a hit!
One thing I love about this spot is that you can rent it out for events. So whether it’s a birthday, a chill night with friends, or something bigger, the space has you covered!
Overall, The Artist Tree in Hawthorne isn’t just another lounge—it’s a safe space. Between the stellar service, dope products, and great atmosphere, it’s definitely somewhere I’ll be bringing my friends to. If you haven’t checked it out yet, make it happen. You won’t regret it.

Expressive takes on traditional sushi offerings drive the popularity of Izakaya Osen on a busy Sunset Blvd. corner in Silver Lake. A generous covered entrance patio off the parking lot is already staked out by regulars at 5 pm while inside, casual comfort with the flair of fine dining is lorded over by an elite line of sushi chefs and personable servers (like Skye, amazing!) who deftly craft your izakaya experience.
Starting with lush Seabass Croquettes and Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice with spicy almond aioli and eel sauce we decided to pair with beer and wine and save exploring the extensive list of curated sakes for the next visit.
Next, the sublime Yellowtail Jalapeño was a naughty pleasure with a hint of garlic which led us down the decadent road of ordering Chef’s 18-piece Premium Sashimi Hashimori, an irresistible cornucopia of variety, sensual mouthfuls, brine, and flavorful accents that turns the idea of sashimi heaven Thanksgiving on its head.
All in all, Damon Cho’s Izakaya Osen Silver Lake offers an updated take on the sushi tavern concept that is beguiling and also authentic.

Obesity is a growing public health concern across the United States, with the state of California being no exception. According to a GlobalData report, obesity can have profound economic implications in California, with the reduction in the economy amounting to $89.5 billion or about 2.5% of the state’s gross domestic product. Since obesity is a progressive condition that can decrease the quality of life and increase the risk of other chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, these economic costs mainly come from healthcare expenses and workforce productivity losses. For instance, there are 353,600 fewer adults in the workforce due to obesity-related unemployment and preventable deaths. Employers also spend $6.3 billion more on weight-related absenteeism and disability among overweight or obese employees. Considering the staggering costs of obesity on health and quality of life, obesity prevention, and management interventions must become accessible among Californians. Weight loss drugs emerge as an increasingly available option for overweight and obese residents, demanding a closer look at how they work and what patients must consider before taking them.
How weight loss drugs work
In a previous article from the ongoing Ask the Experts series, primary care physician Dr. David Nazarian explains that a class of drugs called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonists is now being used for weight loss. Although GLP-1 agonists were originally used to treat type 2 diabetes, they can also be prescribed for chronic weight loss and management.
GLP-1 agonists mimic the brain receptors and gut hormones responsible for satiety and appetite control. By binding to GLP-1 receptors, these medications can curb hunger and slow down stomach emptying, thus preventing overeating and promoting weight loss.
Weekly injectables that aid weight loss
Weight loss drugs typically come in the form of weekly injectables, which means they are liquid medications administered with a needle and syringe. Among the GLP-1 agonists available to Californians enrolled in the Medicaid program is the liraglutide Saxenda, which may be used by adults with obesity or adults who are overweight and have a weight-related complication like diabetes or hypertension.
Likewise, Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for heart health and chronic weight management. After a House Bill was passed this year, California is now among the states whose Medicaid program covers Wegovy as weight loss drugs with added health benefits, such as improved blood sugar levels.
Another increasingly accessible GLP-1 agonist is Ozempic, which is also a semaglutide like Wegovy and can lower blood sugar and reduce appetite. However, since Ozempic is only approved by the FDA for type 2 diabetes, there have been concerns about its side effects on overweight or obese individuals.
Side effects of weight loss drugs
One of the most visible side effects of taking Ozempic for weight loss is Ozempic butt, which is characterized by the loose, sagging appearance of the buttocks. This phenomenon can be attributed to how Ozempic induces rapid weight loss of about 5.9% after three months and 10.9% without six months.
Losing a significant amount of weight within a short period means the skin can barely adjust and becomes less elastic, leading to wrinkly, sagging, and even aging skin. Other side effects of Ozempic include headache, dizziness, fatigue, and gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain. In 2023, about 12% of reported overdose exposures to semaglutide were from California, which also highlights the need for medical supervision when using weight loss drugs.
Other weight loss approaches
While weight loss drugs can be effective, overweight or obese individuals can reduce the risk of their side effects by looking into other weight loss approaches. A notable example is bariatric surgery, which manages obesity and related conditions through medical procedures like the alteration of gut hormones, reduction of stomach size, and modification or bypass of the intestines.
A news article reports that 4.4% of the severely obese children in southern California qualify for pediatric bariatric surgery, with children’s hospitals Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, UCLA Health, and Stanford Children’s Health offering the procedure.
Beyond these medical approaches, healthy and sustainable weight loss can also be achieved through lifestyle modifications like a reduced-calorie diet and regular exercise.

Fall television programming traditionally features a mix of new series debuts, returning favorites, and special events. Here’s a breakdown of what Fall 2024 looks like for TV programming:
Scripted Dramas & Comedies
New Premieres: Fall is the time when networks introduce new shows. Expect a range of new dramas and comedies trying to capture attention. Themes often include family life, thrillers, legal dramas, or comedies set in workplaces.
Returning Favorites: Many fan-favorite shows are returning, from long-running police procedurals like NCIS and Law & Order to hit sitcoms like Abbott Elementary. Several popular dramas (like Grey’s Anatomy) also return with new seasons, attracting loyal viewers.
Strikes Impact: The 2023 Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) strikes may have delayed some scripted programming, so networks have had to adjust their schedules. This includes shifting premiere dates, shorter seasons, or pushing shows to midseason.
Reality Shows
Competition Series: Fall remains a hotspot for major reality competitions like The Voice, Survivor, The Masked Singer, and Dancing with the Stars. These shows are reliable, as reality programming isn’t as affected by the writers’ and actors’ strikes.
New Reality & Docuseries: Networks are also rolling out new reality-based programming, tapping into interests like dating, survival, and celebrity life.
Streaming Services
Platforms like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Disney+ continue offering exclusive new series and films throughout the Fall. Netflix is still a leader with its mix of original dramas, reality shows, and global content.
Many streaming services have started experimenting with weekly episode releases for key shows, rather than dropping entire seasons at once, to keep viewers engaged.
Sports & Events
Football: NFL and college football dominate primetime, especially on weekends. Monday Night Football and Sunday Night Football continue to be some of the highest-rated programs.
Award Shows: The Emmys, typically held in September, have been postponed to January 2024 due to the strikes, impacting Fall programming.
Holiday Programming
As Fall transitions into late November and December, there will be a ramp-up in holiday-themed TV. This includes Thanksgiving specials, Christmas movies on Hallmark, Lifetime, and Netflix, and end-of-year events.
Overall, Fall 2024 television programming is navigating through some production challenges, but with a blend of reality TV, sports, and creative use of streaming content, there’s still a diverse lineup for viewers.

Mastering the Real Estate Market in Southern California: The Southern California real estate market is one of the most dynamic and competitive in the country, attracting buyers, sellers, and investors from across the globe. From the sun-soaked beaches of Malibu to the urban sprawl of Los Angeles and the growing suburbs of Orange County, each area offers unique opportunities and challenges for anyone looking to enter the market. But what does it take to truly become an expert in this diverse landscape?
Understanding Market Trends
In Southern California, market trends can shift rapidly due to factors like economic conditions, housing demand, and local regulations. An expert stays ahead of the curve by keeping a pulse on key indicators such as:
- Home Prices: Property values vary widely across the region, with some areas experiencing rapid appreciation while others may stabilize.
- Inventory Levels: In low-inventory markets, competition among buyers is fierce, often leading to bidding wars and above-asking-price sales.
- Interest Rates: These directly impact buyer affordability, influencing how many potential buyers can enter the market.
By regularly analyzing these trends, real estate professionals can make informed recommendations to their clients, ensuring they capitalize on the right opportunities.
Regional Expertise
Southern California isn’t a monolithic market. Each city and neighborhood has its own unique characteristics and demand drivers. An expert understands the nuances of the following:
- Los Angeles: As the entertainment capital of the world, LA attracts high-net-worth individuals and international buyers. Neighborhoods like Beverly Hills and Bel-Air are known for luxury homes, while emerging areas like Downtown LA are popular for condo developments and urban living.
- Orange County: Known for its family-friendly communities, excellent school districts, and coastal living, areas like Newport Beach and Laguna Niguel are in high demand among buyers looking for a mix of luxury and suburban life.
- Inland Empire: More affordable than its coastal counterparts, the Inland Empire offers opportunities for first-time homebuyers and real estate investors interested in rental properties.
Legal and Regulatory Knowledge
Southern California’s real estate market is governed by complex laws, zoning regulations, and environmental concerns. From rent control ordinances in certain cities to navigating the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) for new developments, true expertise requires staying updated on these rules to protect clients’ interests and ensure smooth transactions.
Building Relationships and a Network
Real estate is a relationship-driven business. The best real estate experts build strong connections with local developers, mortgage brokers, contractors, and other agents. These relationships provide insider knowledge and access to off-market properties—an invaluable resource in Southern California, where competition is high.
Investment Savvy
Southern California remains a hotspot for real estate investors, whether it’s short-term rentals in prime tourist areas or long-term residential investments. An expert knows which neighborhoods are poised for growth and where cap rates and cash-on-cash returns offer the best potential.
Marketing and Technology
In a region as competitive as Southern California, real estate experts use cutting-edge marketing techniques to stand out. From drone photography and virtual tours to savvy social media campaigns, staying ahead in the digital space is essential to reach the right audience.
Final Thoughts
Expertise in the Southern California real estate market goes far beyond basic property transactions. It requires a deep understanding of regional trends, laws, investment opportunities, and a strong network. Whether you’re buying, selling, or investing, aligning with an expert who has a holistic view of the market can make all the difference in achieving success in this fast-paced and competitive landscape.
